Cambodia is strengthening its efforts to attract more Muslim travellers and expand its presence in the growing global Muslim tourism market following its participation in the World Islamic Tourism & Trade Expo (WITEX) 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia, in collaboration with Elite Hospitality & Management (EHM), participated in WITEX to showcase Cambodia’s diverse tourism potential and connect the Kingdom with tourism leaders, travel agencies, tour operators, and industry partners from key Muslim and international markets.

The participation reflects Cambodia’s growing ambition to develop new international tourism markets while creating greater awareness of the Kingdom as a Muslim-friendly travel destination.

Connecting Cambodia with Key Muslim Tourism Markets

WITEX 2026 provided an opportunity for Cambodia to engage directly with tourism stakeholders from important source markets and introduce the country’s unique combination of cultural heritage, natural landscapes, islands, resorts, and hospitality experiences.

A significant outcome of Cambodia’s participation extends beyond the exhibition itself. Following WITEX, the Ministry of Tourism has invited the Chairman and President of WITEX, together with selected travel agencies and tourism representatives from Malaysia, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and other key markets, to visit Cambodia as part of a familiarization and destination inspection trip.

The initiative is designed to give tourism industry leaders and tour operators the opportunity to experience Cambodia firsthand, explore its tourism products and hospitality offerings, and gain a deeper understanding of the country’s potential for Muslim-friendly travel.

By experiencing Cambodia directly, international tourism partners can better assess the destination for inclusion in future tour programmes and help address perceptions that may have previously limited Cambodia’s presence in Muslim-focused travel itineraries.

EHM Supporting Muslim-Friendly Hospitality in Cambodia

Recognizing the importance of this initiative, Elite Hospitality & Management (EHM) is collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism by supporting and hosting the visiting delegation across selected EHM-managed resorts and hospitality properties in Cambodia.

The collaboration provides an opportunity for international tourism representatives to experience different destinations, hospitality environments, and tourism products across the Kingdom while gaining first-hand insight into the experiences available to Muslim travellers.

EHM is also prepared to welcome Muslim guests with hospitality services and facilities designed with their needs in mind. The group has a Halal-certified Muslim chef and hotel facilities and services prepared to support a comfortable and welcoming stay for Muslim travellers.

For EHM, Muslim-friendly hospitality is about more than accommodation. It is about creating an environment where guests feel comfortable, respected, and genuinely welcome as they discover Cambodia.

A Growing Opportunity for Muslim Tourism in Cambodia

Muslim tourism represents an increasingly important opportunity for Cambodia’s tourism sector. As more travellers seek destinations that combine authentic cultural experiences, natural beauty, quality accommodation, and considerate hospitality, Cambodia has significant potential to attract a wider share of this international market.

“Muslim tourism represents an important opportunity for Cambodia’s tourism sector,” said Mr. Faz Ghotbi, CEO of Elite Hospitality & Management.

“Cambodia has a unique combination of lush green landscapes, tropical islands, rich cultural heritage and a refreshing natural environment shaped by our tropical climate. These qualities offer a very different experience for travellers coming from regions with predominantly dry climates.”

Beyond the destination itself, Muslim travellers represent an increasingly important tourism segment with strong spending potential across accommodation, dining, wellness, shopping, and leisure experiences.

“At EHM, we believe Cambodia has the opportunity to attract more of these travellers by ensuring that they feel comfortable, respected and genuinely welcomed throughout their stay,” Mr. Ghotbi added.

More Than Heritage: Discovering Cambodia Beyond Angkor

Cambodia is internationally recognized for its cultural and historical heritage, but the Kingdom offers a much broader range of experiences for today’s international traveller.

From historic and cultural destinations to tropical islands, lush landscapes, mountains, nature-based experiences, resorts, and local hospitality, Cambodia offers diverse opportunities for travellers seeking something beyond traditional sightseeing.

For Muslim travellers in particular, the combination of Cambodia’s natural environment, cultural richness, resort experiences, and increasingly Muslim-friendly hospitality presents an opportunity to discover the Kingdom from a different perspective.

EHM’s portfolio of hospitality properties across Cambodia provides an opportunity to experience these diverse destinations while enjoying the comfort and service expected from professionally managed hotels and resorts.

Building Confidence Through First-Hand Experience

The Ministry of Tourism’s initiative following WITEX represents an important next step in developing Cambodia’s Muslim tourism market.

Rather than simply promoting Cambodia from overseas, bringing tourism decision-makers and international travel partners to the Kingdom allows them to experience the destination first-hand, understand its hospitality infrastructure, and evaluate the potential for developing new travel programmes.

This direct engagement can help strengthen relationships between Cambodian hospitality providers and international tour operators while creating greater confidence in Cambodia as a Muslim-friendly tourism destination.

The collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and EHM demonstrates the value of public-private cooperation in opening new tourism markets and creating opportunities for Cambodia to welcome more international visitors.

Looking Ahead: A More Inclusive Cambodian Hospitality Experience

As Cambodia continues to expand its international tourism reach, developing welcoming and inclusive hospitality experiences will be increasingly important.

For EHM, supporting Muslim-friendly tourism is part of a broader commitment to providing quality hospitality to guests from different cultures, backgrounds, and markets.

Through collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, international tourism organisations, travel agencies, and industry partners, EHM looks forward to contributing to Cambodia’s efforts to attract more Muslim travellers and showcase the Kingdom’s diverse tourism experiences to a wider global audience.

With its rich cultural heritage, tropical islands, natural landscapes, distinctive local experiences, and warm Cambodian hospitality, Cambodia has an opportunity to become an increasingly attractive destination for Muslim travellers seeking authentic experiences in Southeast Asia.

EHM is proud to support this journey and looks forward to welcoming more Muslim travellers to Cambodia.
